Commexis Cast Daily Recap – Nov. 17, 2017: E-mail Marketing is Gonna Be Hot this Holiday!

Today’s Commexis Cast recaps the best stories from this week’s show. Adobe predicts over $20 billion revenue generated from e-mail marketing this holiday season, co-viewing on streaming services opens doors for brands that’d otherwise be closed, and you use your phone 47+ time a day.

First, Adobe predicts over $20 billion will be generated from e-mail marketing this holiday season. Jess Nelson dives into the findings on MediaPost, which include predictions “that online sales will increase 13.8% year-over-year to $107.4 billion, with Cyber Monday becoming the largest online shopping day in history with $6.6 billion in sales.”

Second, eMarketer’s latest report shows how powerful co-viewing can be for brands advertising on an OTT service. Rimma Kats explains that “over half (56%) of respondents who co-view OTT content said they talk about the products and brands they see. And nearly as many (45%) said they would change someone else’s mind about a product or brand they see during a co-viewing session.” This is good news for brands looking to get their message out there on the Hulu’s of the world.

Finally, eMarketer and MediaPost breakdown Deloitte’s latest “Global Mobile Media Survey” on mobile usage. eMarketer reported “most people check their device approximately 47 times per day” with younger audiences checking their phone 86 times per day. The Cast share some anecdotal evidence that maybe these numbers are much higher than they seem.  And to no surprise, smartphones are almost always by a consumers side when shopping, and doing various other activities. MediaPost’s Tanya Gazdik focused on the mobile carrier statistics in her Deloitte write-up. “Sixty-three percent of consumers have visited a carrier store in the last year,” she writes, “making retail stores an important connection to the mobile consumer, and almost one in five consumers has visited a carrier story in the last month.” In addition, “[n]early two-thirds of consumers still replace their phones every two years, despite the lack of device subsidies,” the study states.

These numbers are great for business, but what do you need to go forward? The Cast weighs in.
