Commexis Cast Daily – Mar. 12, 2018: A.I. Chatbot Use is Down, But Not Out

Today’s Commexis Cast discusses the latest eMarketer report on a survey of 500 marketers, only 7% of which say they’re currently using AI Chatbots for the brands. The survey was performed by Freedman International and ClickZ, and in addition to the 7%, the report says, “another 27% reported that they’re looking into using chatbots, most respondents said their company was either not ready or didn’t have the budget to develop them.” According to a report by Conductor in December of 2017, 34% of marketing executives felt that artificial intelligence was their least prepared for marketing trend.

Many brands are discontinuing all or some of their chatbot use, such as Facebook. The social media company stop using many AI chatbots when the failure rate was at 70%, meaning only 30% of inquiries could be handled by the bot without human intervention. In addition, the bots also began creating their own language. While linguistics were probably enthused, I doubt Facebook was.

Matt and Phillip discuss why exactly brands feel so unsure about chatbots, and offer specific ways you can think about chatbots for your digital transformation.

Today’s cast: Phillip Brooks (Commexis Lead Strategist) and Matthew McGrorty (Commexis Videographer/Podcaster).
