#CommexisConvo – Josh Lyons, Social Media Intern!

Welcome to #CommexisConvo! Each week we’ll be featuring profiles of the Commexis employees who make your digital marketing campaigns soar! Today we’re speaking with our new Social Media Intern Josh! He’s a fresh graduate of Temple University looking for full-time employment while interning here, and we’re excited for him to learn all the ins-and-outs of an agency. 

Question (Q): What is your morning beverage of choice?

Answer (A): As soon as I wake up I need a large glass of cold water and a coffee, light and sweet.

Q: What would you name your boat if you had one?

A: I’m still having trouble naming my first car, so naming a boat is on a whole new scale. However, if I had to choose a name, and make it as punny as possible, it would be “A Yacht Of Fun”.

Q: If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

A: What is the best thing I can do to make a major impact to my community?

Q: You’re pretty active on social media when it comes to sports. Can you tell me a little about that?

A: Growing up I have always been a huge sports fan and learned to fall in love with all of the Philadelphia teams. On top of playing a bunch of sports and having season tickets to the Flyers, I loved to discuss and debate with my friends about random topics. When I was in middle school, I was introduced to Twitter and found a whole new world of sports fans both in my region and around the world.

While this was only in the beginning stages of the Twitter boom on social media, I started to use the platform to express my opinions to others, listen to new perspectives, and watch the evolution of how all social media outlets were used both for leisure and business. I played around with the oldest of memes, created graphic content, and used internet trends to appeal to my audience while also being informative about the major topics in the sports industry. On my personal account (@TheLyons_den) I am proud to have reached over 1 million impressions monthly as I continue to grow and learn more everyday. Some of the key components of my Twitter journey have been community engagement, SEO, content creation, e-commerce, and data analysis.

While I was studying to get my Marketing Degree at Temple University, I took a digital/social media track so I could learn how to use social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and LinkedIn to help maximize other business’ social media while continuing my sports passion online. I now produce a weekly 76ers centered podcast called the Phifth Quarter (@ThePhifthQ) on Wildfire Radio with my college buddies as I use my social media skills in a more professional setting. Now, we are in the stages of expansion and hoping to become one of the premier sports talk shows in the Philadelphia area while we all pursue full time jobs in the workforce. You just need to Trust The Process. #TTP

The best part about what I am doing on social media is that we are only at the beginning stages and there is high growth ceiling. It’s crucial that all business take a step out of their comfort zone and attack marketing on social media so they can generate more sales and awareness. I hope that down the line I can use my platform to give back to the community and put smiles on the faces of other sports fans in the Philadelphia area.

Q: What drew you to apply to Commexis?

A: I was looking for work in a small marketing/advertising agency with a culture that is very friendly and personable to be around. I like a relaxed environment that can focus hard on their clients individually to give them the best chances to succeed.

Q: What are you looking forward to learning about the most during your time at Commexis?

A: I am looking forward to learning how to work with real clients and get my feet wet in the workforce, as well as gaining valuable experience doing social media creation for industries other than sports, all while I continue to search for full time employment. I’m excited to work the hardest I can and help the Commexis team solve problems to contribute to their success.

Q: What are you hoping to do once your internship ends?

A: When my time with Commexis is over, I hope to have full time employment with a sports ad agency running social accounts and engaging with the community; all while I continue to expand my podcast!
