#CommexisConvo – Phillip Brooks, Commexis Lead Strategist!

Welcome to #CommexisConvo! Each week we’ll be featuring profiles of the Commexis employees who make your digital marketing campaigns soar! Today we’re speaking with our Lead Strategist Phillip:

Question (Q): What would you name your boat if you had one?

Answer (A): My first instinct is to name it after the Heart of Gold from my favorite book, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” But, I once saw Neil Young in concert, and he spent 30 minutes tuning his guitar. I wouldn’t want people to assume I’m a big fan.  So, I’d probably name my vessel the Kiera Frances, after my daughter.

(Q): What’s the worst commercial you’ve recently seen? Why is it so bad?

(A): I’m currently hate-watching a campaign ad for a PA Republican gubernatorial candidate named Paul Mango. I don’t even live in PA and this commercial makes me wish I did, just so I could vote against him.

Why is it so bad? It’s a mashup of painfully awkward clichés. The fake tattoo is particularly egregious. Absolute pandering to the lowest common denominator. Kudos to the media buyer though. It’s on during Jeopardy! every night. They know their audience.

(Q): If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

(A): Wow, you teed me up to slip in two Douglas Adams references in one interview! I would say we know the answer… it’s 42. The question itself is the real puzzler. That is, the answer will only make sense once we fully understand the question of “Life, the Universe and Everything”.

(Q): What’s the best part of being a lead strategist?

(A): I love the variety. I’m always doing something different. I get to shift from creative to strategy on a dime and I get to follow our creative throughout the entire campaign process. In a lot of other jobs, you only get to see how one silo uses the creative. In my role here, not only do I get to choose how our creative is applied to an overall strategy, I see how our creative assets actually affect each step in the customer’s journey.

(Q): What’s your favorite part of working at Commexis?

(A): The team. It’s a real family-like environment. We have a hand-picked group of professionals that are tops in their disciplines. It’s a joy to come to work each day. It’s also really fun to get to be the de facto office DJ thanks to my Spotify premium account. I can deliver requests on-demand or I can crush my office mates’ hopes and dreams with bad and obscure covers of their requested songs.

Thanks to Phillip for taking the time to answer our questions! Have any questions you’d like to hear our employees answer? Let us know, and check us out next week for more!
