The Awareness Stage is the first stage in The Buyer’s Journey. During the Awareness stage, a prospective customer realizes they have a need or are made aware of a problem.

Getting Noticed

Brian Benedik on AdWeek wrote a fantastic piece on creating engaging video ads. He argues that over-saturation of the video ad market means you need to find strategies to make your ads better. We couldn’t agree more. Here are three tips from Benedik’s piece and our thoughts on them:

  • Reward the Consumer: Make the consumer feel like they’re getting something out of watching your ad. Benedik’s example focuses on gaming apps that often give in-game currency or rewards to players who watch ads. The team thinks this idea is great, but unfortunately not always effective for advertisements outside of apps. For example, how do you encourage someone to watch your ad on Facebook? There’s no built-in inventive system there.
  • Turn Up The Volume: Benedik suggests using well crafted audio to really put your ads to the next level. As someone whose last career was in radio, I completely agree. I cannot understate how important audio is to well crafted video creative. If the sound is bad or feels off, the entire feeling of a piece can be thrown off.
  • Get Creative And Personal: Make sure your content isn’t just good, but relevant. Being personal means finding a way to make your brand relevant to your users. Benedik’s suggestion of being creative is helpful, too. You can reward a consumer and use sound all you like, but if the content isn’t good it won’t gain traction.
